RLOP Structural Repairs

The Rossland Light Opera Players operates from the building at 2054 Washington Street in Rossland. The structure was constructed as the Bodega Hotel in 1896.

During a recent internal inspection of the building two major structural issues were observed:

  1. Two of the beams that support the floor in the main hall had started to warp, and
  2. Three of the wooden posts that support those beams were rotting out.

An application for a grant was submitted for a Built Heritage Grant from Columbia Basin Trust. A substantial grant was awarded to not only to complete the structural repairs but also to have a heritage assessment done.

The structural repairs have recently been completed.

The heritage assessment has also been completed. This assessment provided:

  • An updated Statement of Significance which outlines the key heritage features of the building,
  • A more complete history of the owners and occupants of the building, and
  • A recommendation of restorations that could be done to restore and maintain the structural features of the building.

The Rossland Light Opera Players would like to express our gratitude to Heritage BC and the Columbia Basin Trust for their assistance and support.
