Since the RLOP acquire the building in 1983 there have been a number of modifications, alterations an enhancements. Unfortunately, during some of these changes the electrical systems were not kept up to date or modified for the changes.

An application for a grant was submitted for a Built Heritage Grant from Columbia Basin Trust. A grant was awarded to fix failures with some of the outlets and lights and to bring some of the systems up to code. The electrical repairs have recently been completed.

The Rossland Light Opera Players would like to express our gratitude to Heritage BC and the Columbia Basin Trust for their assistance and support.

The Rossland Light Opera Players operates from the building at 2054 Washington Street in Rossland. The structure was constructed as the Bodega Hotel in 1896.

During a recent internal inspection of the building two major structural issues were observed:

  1. Two of the beams that support the floor in the main hall had started to warp, and
  2. Three of the wooden posts that support those beams were rotting out.

An application for a grant was submitted for a Built Heritage Grant from Columbia Basin Trust. A substantial grant was awarded to not only to complete the structural repairs but also to have a heritage assessment done.

The structural repairs have recently been completed.

The heritage assessment has also been completed. This assessment provided:

  • An updated Statement of Significance which outlines the key heritage features of the building,
  • A more complete history of the owners and occupants of the building, and
  • A recommendation of restorations that could be done to restore and maintain the structural features of the building.

The Rossland Light Opera Players would like to express our gratitude to Heritage BC and the Columbia Basin Trust for their assistance and support.

We’re searching for singers to make Rekindle 2017 a terrific beginning to the Christmas season! Practices are on Wed evenings, 7 – 9, until Rekindle (Saturday December 2). There are three songs to learn — “Dominick the Italian Christmas Donkey,” “A Moose In A Maple Tree” and “Welcome Christmas” from How the Grinch Stole Christmas , all easy to find on Youtube.
We will be on the stage in the square this year, so I’m looking for ideas that avoid the “Park’n’Bark” syndrome that afflicts choruses. Let’s do something completely different!
