Snow White: Missoula Children’s Theatre & RLOP http://rlop.ca/2012/10/snow-white-missoula-childrens-theatre-rlop/ http://rlop.ca/2012/10/snow-white-missoula-childrens-theatre-rlop/#comments Mon, 15 Oct 2012 19:17:16 +0000 http://rlop.ca/?p=1276 Missoula Children’s Theatre and Rossland Light Opera Players present “Snow White”.

A little red truck pulls into your town with everything it takes to mount a full-scale musical production…except the cast. That’s where the children of your community come in. On Monday, they’re cast as characters. By Saturday, they’ve gained character – the kind that really counts.

Dates: April 29-May 4, 2013
Who: All children grades K-12 in the Greater Trail Area (Castlegar, Fruitvale, Montrose, Rossland and Trail)
Times: TBA closer to date. Children will be expected to attend rehearsals every day that week for 2-4 hours depending on part in the show.

Friday night I went to the Rossland Light Opera’s performance of The Wizard of Oz… and was I ever impressed! They did a terrific job and as I was sitting enjoying the live orchestra and watching the many talented actors, I found myself vowing to not miss any of these live shows ever again.

I loved every second from the music, to the acting, to the set design and set changes, to the general ambience of being out on a friday night!

It’s amazing to me that so many of these talented actors are just regular people from right here in our community. I’ve seen many of them ramdomly around town, but I had no idea they were singers, or actors, or musicians.

To find show times in Trail or Castlegar, go to: rlop.ca

Thanks RLOP for a Great show… yet again!

Wayne

Thanks, Wayne, for your kind words. We look forward to seeing you again next year… maybe in the men’s chorus?

Updates: Fall Fair, Fall Show, and Auditions! http://rlop.ca/2010/09/updates-fall-fair-fall-show-and-auditions/ http://rlop.ca/2010/09/updates-fall-fair-fall-show-and-auditions/#comments Mon, 27 Sep 2010 22:41:31 +0000 http://rlop.ca/?p=921 Fall 2010

Hey everyone!

The Golden City Days/Fall Fair was an fantastic event! We made just shy of $400 on the Tea Garden and our float was a great crowd pleaser. We sang “We’re Off To See The Wizard” while handing out pamphlets. I’m thrilled to say that we had a huge membership turnout for this event; more people than can be named, so a huge thanks and great work to those who attended or baked!

Auditions are done for the Fall Show and we now have a great cast. We will still need support on the show nights (Nov. 6th and 13th) to help with the bartending etc. Let me know how you can help!

Mainstage Audition reminder: The read thrus are this week; the auditions are next week. You do not have to attend the read thrus to get the chance to audition. The read thrus are there to help you decide if you want to be a part of this version of WoZ; it’s different than the Judy Garland version.

Welcome to the new site! http://rlop.ca/2010/09/welcome-to-the-new-site/ http://rlop.ca/2010/09/welcome-to-the-new-site/#comments Wed, 22 Sep 2010 09:23:50 +0000 http://rlop.ca/?p=810 We’ve just launched our new website: rlop.ca! Following on the excellent work of Chuck Cram on rlop.kics.bc.ca, we’ve reorganised some of our information, adding a whole lot more, and implemented the famous WordPress platform to allow Web Feeds, comments, and more great features. Check out these highlights!

The Shows

We’ve built a page for every show we’ve ever done at rlop.ca/shows, sorted by decade—starting in the 1950s with The Pirates of Penzance. Each show includes a link to the show before and after it, a synopsis, and links to other years RLOP has played that show.

Do you have more info on a show? We would love to have more scanned programs, photos, newspaper clippings, background information—anything! Get in touch with us; we’ll figure out how to get your information included on the website.

Faces of the RLOP

Over the course of our history, RLOP has had many amazing people taking part. From amazing singers, dancers and musicians; to brilliant props and set creators; to talented organisers and promoters; the people associated with RLOP have been incredibly talented, creative and dedicated. We’d like to showcase them.

Is there someone in the RLOP (past or present) that you know quite a bit about? Write a few paragraphs about him or her! We want to showcase as many of our past and present members as possible.

Like the shows, we also want photos, newspaper clippings, bio, and whatever other information you have (or can create) about these amazing people.
